Medien und Bildung RLP gGmbH
(Media and Education Rhineland-Palatinate not-for-profit Ltd.)

In view of the development of the internet, the increasing surge of information, fake news and new applications around the web and gaming, there is an increasing need to provide orientation and information for institutions and individuals. Media education to master this challenge is an essential element in the media literacy efforts of the Media Institute Rhineland-Palatinate, the media authority for the German federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate.

As a response to this challenge, the Media Institute Rhineland-Palatinate, former known as Central Authority for Media and Communication, founded Media and Education in December 2006 as a not-for-profit Ltd. The working goals of Media and Education result from the task of the state media authorities to implement preventive measures to protect minors when using the media.

Our task is to develop sustainable models of media education and to test them in educational contexts. Teachers in educational institutions need specific skills in the field of media education, as well as background knowledge about the socialization of children and young people. While the term "media competence" or "media competence" refers directly to dealing with the media, the term "media educational competence" focuses on pedagogical and didactic concepts. To implement this, teachers need our support. The essential dimensions are technical, creative, didactic, legal, ethical and aesthetic aspects. Due to its wide range of tasks, its knowledge resources and its network structures, the Media Institute Rhineland-Palatinate bridges many of these dimensions and offers its expertise to support educational institutions in Rhineland-Palatinate.

Media education focuses on two topics that must be linked: On the one hand, determining the skills that people need for their personal development, for their orientation in society and for assertion in the professional world. On the other hand, it is about defining the basic social requirements that people are confronted with being able to react appropriately to the ongoing changes in culture and the professional world.

Since media education and the rapid progress of digitization require practical, action-oriented methods and thus a new didactic orientation, the media education specialists at m+b.com test innovative methods for their practical suitability.

The linking of media-educational theory and everyday pedagogical practice requires a lot of time and extensive additional measures from the staff: advice, technical and creative support, practical examples, training courses, self-learning offers, interactive learning platforms and so on. For these reasons, Media and Education is proud of its well-trained professionals who are able to work with the most diverse target groups and the most diverse media, programs and applications.

Four different topic teams were set up for varying areas of education (daycare centers, schools, youth work, teacher training, adult education, libraries) and their target groups, so that we can provide media-educational solutions for every single target group.
